Charity Poker Crew Fundraiser
What is charity poker?
It is a fundraiser offered to charitable organizations by the State of Michigan that is run through local bars and restaurants. Each event is four days. In these four days, we are able to make on average $3000 for the crew. Parents work at 3-4 events per year primarily in the off season. It’s an easy way to raise a large amount of money for the crew in a short amount of time.
What do we do? We are NOT dealers or players for these events. We simply sit behind a desk with a computer and the players come to us and purchase chips. We then record the money coming in and going out in the computer. It's super easy! Sports are on the big screen TV's hanging from the walls and waitresses are available to order from the menu while there.
Who can sign up?
All crew parents are expected to participate by working at least one shift per event. Since the State of Michigan requires having three volunteers at all times now, it is very important that you signup. Online signup links are sent at least three weeks prior to the event. You will have plenty of time to check out the shift times, get your ducks in a row with carpools, pickups, or whatever is needed to find a shift time that works for you. Also, you are always welcome to have a friend or family member (18 or older) signup with you.
What do we use the money for?
The sacrifice of your time is appreciated! We aim to keep parents out of pocket costs as low as possible, while still maintaining our premier rowing program that has consistently performed at a high level for 40 years. For example, money raised from past events was able to cover costs such as needed repairs to several boats, purchase new and updated equipment, and help pay for safety lights near the rowers dock.
